For school boys it is time for final exams and a long and good winter brake...even camps are held in summer not in winter. Bot for us it has become one of the most thrilling and painful month. It started with excursion of 5 days in which we visited jaduguda, rajanka and noamundi mines and what we learnt from this excursion is a very important teaching that there exists a don in ISM with no one messes and there is great respect for him in students, managers and even GMs that used to be his student, due to his influence and scariness.
But we were really valued in mines when we were with him....man it was thrilling to see that GM was hesitating from sitting beside him...awesome
But now survey camp has started which will continue for 3 weeks and the most important fact is we r still in awe that we don't have even sunday..everyday is bloddy monday.

MINING ki majburi...........
mining is the best branch among all other branch of ism.
but the only problem is that we have lots of time to do nothing
and no time to do anything
even we don't have vacation in winter & summer time
instead of that we have boring trainings in that time
we are lonely tigers of ISM.................................

can u imagine a train running through such a tunnel
the top pic is the no of tunnel drives that have been made as shown in section diag. below.
it is the worlds longest tunnel and imagine driving this below 240 m deep near middle of it which makes it deepest railway tunnel of world.
if it doesn't amaze you then let me tell you:
- More than 2,800 tons of explosives were used in the construction of the tunnel.
- One hundred sixty-eight thousand tons of steel was used in the construction of the tunnel. That's enough steel to build four Petronas Towers! (photo above)
- The railway track runs 787 feet below the surface of the sea, making it the deepest railway line in the world.
- During construction in 1976, tunnel workers hit a patch of soft rock with disastrous results. Water gushed into the tunnel at a whopping rate of 80 tons per minute. It took more than two months to control the flood. Luckily, no lives were lost.
scope of petroleum job for mining students at ism
the sources are not so reliable but not also negligible....the rumor or talk is few companies of petroleum engg.
are interested in recruiting mining students. The fact is we will be evaluated on Drilling tech & production...
which is generally not a choice of job for petro students...but if u ask me..it will far more better, secured and most of safer that mining job.
aur petroleum industry mein job means more money and less expenses ....
Our CR is trying to present our petroleum courses that are taught to mining students in front of some famous petro companies like CAIRN etc..
what we need to do is show our interests in this field...and talk to our HOD about this and preparing a new brochure.

The Longest Railway Tunnel Ever Constructed Beneath a Seabed
The Seikan Submarine Tunnel was opened in March 1988 and runs beneath the seabed of the Tsugaru Strait, which separates the southern edge of Hokkaido from Aomori Prefecture on the northern edge of the mainland. This tunnel is a part of a railway that runs between Aomori City and Hakodate City in just two and a half hours, and was named by combining the two characters and pronunciations of Aomori City's "Ao (Sei)" and Hakodate City's "Hako (Kan)". The length of 53.85 kilometers (33.5 miles) makes it world's longest, though its 23.3 kilometers (14.5 miles) of submarine portion was outdistanced by the 37.5-kilometer (23.3-mile) Euro Tunnel which opened in 1994. The railway track runs 240 meters (787 feet) below the sea surface, and is the deepest railway line in the world. The advanced civil engineering technologies have been rated highly that made it possible for the tunnel to run below 140-meter-deep (459-foot-deep) water as well as 100 meters (328 feet) below the seabed.
The tunnel was designed with gentle curves and slopes for possible future use by Shinkansen (bullet trains). In addition, high-strength rails suitable for Shinkansen (bullet trains) have been used.
There are two stations inside the tunnel: Tappi Kaitei Station on the Aomori side, and Yoshioka Kaitei Station on the Hokkaido side. They are both located just under the coastal line. In these two station buildings-which are rare submarine stations-tour courses have been established with reference displays of the Tsugaru Strait and the Seikan Tunnel.

A good and beneficial advice to all

Why mining at ISM is special and valued in INDIA?
This is not a khokha. I have asked my friends pursuing same branch in colleges like Kgp, raipur and BHU. The basic difference is immense background support of our alumni and our labs. I know u will believe this is not true, but a 2nd year student passes the lab with giving exam in total station or Gps whereas they are still passing the lab exams in theodolites. they have the equipments but what we have a practical experience may be little but for telltale we have it.
In addition to this we have our babas who are doing many bhokali things doing in various parts of world.
From this day I will keep U updated with these bhokals of ISM who are worth mentioning.
